Why SalesToAccounts exists

SalesToAccounts started from a real bookkeeping problem rather than from a plan to build a broad ecommerce platform. Its founder sells on eBay in the UK and needed eBay Managed Payments activity to become usable accounting records without rebuilding each payout by hand.

That business is deliberately straightforward: one marketplace, no inventory or cost-of-goods accounting to maintain, and books that should stay simple. Making Tax Digital made it more worthwhile to keep those records consistent and digital through the year rather than sorting them out at the end of it.

The product grew out of automating that one narrow job for a real eBay business, and is now available to sellers with the same setup.

How the product is designed

The design rule follows from the origin: keep the business simple, keep the books simple, and automate the part that is unavoidable and repetitive. SalesToAccounts is not a broad ecommerce accounting suite, and it is not trying to become one.

A narrow scope means less ambiguity about what the software will do with a payout, and fewer settings that exist only because some other setup might need them. The effort goes into getting the payout bookkeeping right.

When something else fits better

Broader requirements deserve broader software

Plenty of sellers need more than this: inventory and cost-of-goods accounting, VAT workflows, several marketplaces, or accrual-led reporting. That is a different job, and it deserves software built for it.

If your bookkeeping needs extend beyond this narrow setup, a broader ecommerce accounting platform may be a better fit, and products such as A2X or Link My Books are worth looking at.
